The swimming pool is built in Budapest’s 3rd district commissioned by the TVE association. It represents the first phase of a long-term development plan. Its primary purpose is to provide training facilities for the association’s youth water polo teams while also offering swimming opportunities to the local community. A key consideration was to complete the project within a modest budget.

The building’s usable floor area is approximately 1,300 m². The pool basin was designed as a watertight reinforced concrete structure, while the tent-like roof is supported by an aluminum frame. The service functions are housed within a masonry structure. During the summer months, the sidewalls can be retracted, transforming the pool area into a semi-outdoor space.

The chosen facade design embraces the tented pool volume in symbiosis with the masonry elements, effectively softening the structure’s austere character. The masonry section features vertical timber cladding, which transitions into narrow, ventilated battens around doors and windows. The wooden structural language also dominates the main entrance canopy. On the eastern terrace, the timber framework transforms into pergola units constructed from planks. This concept is playfully repeated on the northern side with boxes of varying widths and depths.

During siting the pool, beyond technical considerations, we prioritized convenient pedestrian access and the creation of a dignified forecourt befitting a public building - while minimizing tree removal on the site.
